Mayor announced today the launch of an innovative community program and the appointment of an inter-disciplinary task force to serve and protect the citizens of Tannersville.

The Tannersville Safe at Home Project kicks off June 14th Flag Day at 6 pm at the Mountain Top Library.

“I appointed an inter-disciplinary committee to assist my constituents. Citizens will now be able to contact a trusted individual with questions concerning their safety and well being. Our team is dedicated to Inform, Educate, and Prevent the Exploitation of the vulnerable. I am very proud that my fellow Tannersville Elected Officials are joining me in taking the lead in protecting our neighbors. I do hope that other villages and towns in Greene County will follow. The SAFE AT HOME is a model program that other communities in Columbia County are already planning. I am grateful to have well respected, dedicated and trusted individuals to accomplish this initiative.”

Attorney Kathryn Salensky of Georges Justice: The Mid Hudson Elder Abuse Prevention Project which serves Greene, Columbia, Dutchess, Ulster and has recently expanded to Schoharie County.

The Mayor will honor Attorney Salensky with a Community Service Award for her dedication and pro bono service to Mountain Top Seniors at the Georges Justice Event on June 15 at the Hudson Library. The Mayor feels strongly that More lawyers need to emulate Salensky’s example and give back to the community.
“Pro bono service enhances the reputation of the legal profession,” says Mayor Dr. Lee McGunnigle.

The Mayor is currently a member of the Greene and Columbia County Elder Abuse Prevention & Education Task Force, a two County Task Force, focused on raising awareness of Elder issues.
The SAFE AT HOME, a most important event, will detail the innovative problem solving nature of the program and explain operation. Tannersville is the first community to implement this initiative in Greene County. The SAFE AT HOME, which is being introduced at the Mountain Top Library on Flag Day, is open to all Counties.
